Chase is a high-stakes sci-fi odyssey that follows the scout ship Astralis as it races against time and a relentless armada to deliver a warning that could save the Union. Beyond the central pursuit, the album explores the broader theme of motion—the thrill of the hunt, the fear of capture, and the exhilaration of the flight. It is the sound of redlining engines and a desperate dash into the black.

ABOUT THE STORY

Near the edge of Union space, a battle fleet of unknown alien invaders arrive, their numbers surprisingly vast, and their tactics strange. Union forces immediately rush in to defend the worlds on the outskirts of their territory, but “The Swarm” has the superior firepower. Analysis sent from the pilots who perished in the fight indicates the trajectory of the Swarm attacks, and the fleet seems to be heading straight to the planet Lytosia, the Union capital and central communication hub. If Lytosia falls, the entire Union falls with it.

Desperate to alert the Union before the capital can be overtaken, a lone scout ship, the Astralis, is tasked with racing to Lytosia to relay the warning. The vessel barely escapes the battle, taking heavy damage in the process, and is pursued by three of the Swarm’s fastest ships. A desperate chase begins with the Astralis barely ahead of their pursuers.

In a daring gambit to finally get ahead of the invaders, the Astralis decides to make a shortcut between the binary black holes of the Consivius system. Hoping the faster but larger invader ships will be torn apart by the gravitational flux, the Astralis hopes they can survive the attempt themselves, which will set them far enough ahead of the invasion to deliver their warning.

There is a moment of respite as the Astralis takes refuge at Starlight Station, a remote science outpost that offers them repairs, but is unable to relay a message to Union command. Unfortunately, as the ship completes its repairs, a surviving invader ship appears, severely damaged, and attacks. The Astralis takes to the sky again, and manages to cripple the ship enough to shake pursuit and make the final dash to the capital.

Arriving at Lytosia, the Astralis finally makes contact, and the Union stages a massive assault against the invaders in the nearby Popcorn Nebula. Setting up sensor buoys throughout, and waiting in ambush behind a dark globule named the Kernel, the Union fleet is able to take the invaders by surprise. The battle is far from easy, but the tide turns when the Union finds and targets their primary coordination vessel. Ultimately the Union is victorious, the surviving invader ships scattering and retreating back into deep space. A vanguard initiative is set into place, to defend the Union from future attack, and keep their worlds safe.
